Chockalingam Sandar (age 61) is genealogy of India, was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He studied in Vivekananda National College, Kotahena, Colombo13, Sri Lanka (1966 – 1980). He migrated to England in 2009 where he finished his Diploma in Health and Social Care in England in 2011 in his age of 53. Hereafter, while he was studying BSc business studies in the university for two years he suspended his study due to the severe illness.

Being a person with social awareness, Thamil consciousness and enthusiasm in Thamil and Thamil society he had formed an organisation called Vivekananda Free Educational Trust (V FET) in 2002 accompanied with his brothers and friends in Sri Lanka where it provides aids to the underprivileged students for the education every year until now.

Sandar believed that Thamils who migrated out of South Asia particularly western countries are currently speaking Thamil as their home language.  But they are found failing to educate properly (speaking, reading and writing) to their inheritors. It’s sad to hear that their children are considerably getting away from learning Thamil language. Even though hundred thousand of heirs speak Thamil, they cannot read and write it. There are most of the students who study in English medium are not interested in studying Thamil. Consequently, these children will not be able to convey the language to their children in future thus Thamil would be slowly disappearing around them. He thought it can’t be allowed the fact that Thamil children are leaving without studying Thamil. The parents should have the responsibilities to teach their own language to their children but they are neglecting due to lack of social awareness.

It should be redressed and found the alternative route for that. As these children are familiar to the English letters, they could understand and memorise the English characters with ease. Therefore, a learner could read and write Thamil words very soon. The way of studying Thamil through English characters would attract significantly the children and youngsters of inheritors of Thamil people. Because of these reasons Sandar created and introduced the thamil”pa*vai alphabet to the Thamil World in England, Greater London, Wembley in his 60th Birthday on 15 March 2019.

Even though there are several writers had written Thamil books using English letters, those were not fulfilled the requirements how they should reach the people who are interested to learn Thamil.  Because the letters of alphabet created by Sandar can be used through any computer and phone it can travel simply to the people to people. This unique method created for whole world gives the proper solution for people who hasitate to learn Thamil and it could travel along with Thamil alphabet. Thamil”pa*vai Alphabet contains of 24 English characters (21 letters + 3 symbols) that can be used for the different sounds of each letters of l, n, r [(ல, ழ, ), (ண, ந, ன), (ர, ற)] and the replacement for 247 Tamil letters and some north Indian letters. It can be gained the ability of Tamil Language easily by means of the new alphabet of Thamil”pa*vai

Certainly, people could develop their ability of writing, speaking, learning & teaching of Tamil language without making error of sound of the Tamil letters by means of new alphabet who are able to speak but not able to write and read Tamil. In this way Thamil would be kept alive he believed.
